American comedian Johnny Lazar is given one final chance to break into the big time when he's employed to tour the various men's clubs and universities across the UK. But on his first gig, he happens to witness a gangland murder. Initially refusing to come forward, he relents when an E-fit of himself is released on TV. He befriends the chief suspect, Delroy Smith, and with Lazar's girlfriend Nula, they head up to Scotland for the next stage of his tour in a bid to lie low.
